First Government Lottery in India
When the Kerala State set up the draw procedure officially in the year 1967, it became the first of its kind by a Government department in India. The Kerala State Lottery is the first ever official government lotteries in independent India.
Other than 6 bumper prizes, the Kerala Government had added many weekly and other periodical draws named Pratheeksha, Dhanasree, Win-Win, Akshaya, Bhagyanidhi, Karunya and Pournami.
All these draws are conducted by government officials under judicial supervision. Prizes are guaranteed by the state government and this made a big confidence factor among the ticket buyers. All of the names above became a hit and government saw steady growth and prize distribution in all of them.
Many draws were introduced for a specific fund-raising purpose. Finding another source was impossible many a times and the lottery department found solution for it.
